When is the Debit Card Conversion?

The Debit Card Conversion will take place on Monday, July 28.

When can I expect my new debit card? Will it have a different number?

You will receive your new debit card (with a new card number) in the mail between July 14 - 28, 2025 in an unmarked envelope. You should activate your new debit card once you receive it by calling 1-800-992-3808.

If you have any charges set up on your old debit card, you’ll need to set those up again on your new card with your new card number.

Why isn’t my name and card number on the front of my new debit card anymore?

We did it for your security! When your card is out in public (e.g., at a restaurant or store), having sensitive information on the back makes it less visible to prying eyes or cameras. Moving it to the back also gives the front of your new card a cleaner front design!

When can I activate and start using my new debit card?

You can activate your new debit card once you receive it in the mail by calling 1-800-992-3808. You may begin using your new card on July 28, 2025, and dispose of your old card at that same time.

If you have any charges set up on your old debit card, you’ll need to set those up again on your new card with your new card number.

I received my new debit card in the mail, and also have my spouse's! Can I activate both?

You can activate your new debit card once you receive it by calling 1-800-992-3808. If you try to activate your spouse's, it may fail. Each card must be activated from the phone number associated with that card, as an added security measure. So, if your spouse's card is tied to their personal phone number, they must activate it separately.

What happens if I do not receive my new card by July 28th?

If you do not receive your new card by the 28th, please give us a call and we’ll get a new one printed for you soon after the Debit Card Conversion!

What if I’ve moved and my debit card was sent to the wrong address?

If your debit card gets returned to American Bank, we will contact you to arrange delivery. If you still do not have your new debit card by July 28th, please let us know and we’ll print you a new one in-branch soon after the Debit Card Conversion.

When will my old card stop working?

Your old debit card will not work on or after July 28, 2025. If you are traveling during this time, make sure to bring both cards with you so you will have no lapse in card usage.

How can I tell the difference between my old debit card and my new debit card?

Your old debit card is horizontally oriented and has your card information (card number, name, & expiration date) on the front of the card. Your new card is vertically oriented and has the added security of locating your card information on the back.

Will I see my debit card on my online banking?

Yes, your debit card information will be available within Online and Mobile Banking soon after the conversion on July 28.

Will my new debit card be compatible with digital wallets like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.?

Yes, your new debit card will be compatible with digital wallets! It may take some time for the digital wallet companies like Apple and Samsung to approve our cards, but the functionality should be there soon after conversion.

Will my old PIN work or will I get sent a new PIN?

You will be prompted to set a new PIN when you activate your new debit card.
